Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is on a working visit to the Ulianovsk Region in the Volga area, has visited the Nuclear Reactor Scientific Centre in Dimitrovgrad city.

He saw the results of the latest research in nuclear energy, in particular the production of fuel for fast-breeder reactors.

The use of such reactors will help solve the main problem of nuclear energy – disposal of activated nuclear fuel – because it will be burnt up in such reactors.

This will help reduce environmental damage and simultaneously increase the resource base for nuclear fuel production, and consequently, increase the economic effect of reactors.

“The used nuclear fuel stored in the warehouses will last for hundreds of years,” Director of the Scientific Centre Vladimir Troyanov told the president.
