Rostov 2 is expected to enter commercial operation on 16 October, according to Russian state nuclear enterprise Rosatom, which said commissioning tests were nearly complete. Fuel was loaded into the 990 MWe pressurized water reactor in December 2009 and it achieved criticality in January 2010. The unit was connected to the grid in March and has since been supplying power. Two other reactors are under construction at the Rostov site (formerly known as Volgodonsk), and these should come into operation between 2013 and 2016.
