Russia's AEM-Technology has become the first company to qualify as a manufacturer of nuclear power plant equipment in Turkey. The Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK) issued the Rosatom subsidiary with a TR-10-003 certificate on 19 September after having audited the company’s work in Volgodonsk and Petrozavodsk, Russia. "Particular attention was paid to the production processes, quality control at all stages of production, and the safety culture in the manufacture of equipment for nuclear power plants," AEM-Technology said. In 2010, Russia and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in construction and operation of Turkey's first nuclear power plant. The project provides for the construction of four power units with VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 4800 MW. The first power unit is planned to be commissioned by 2023.
