The main infrastructure for the unloading and subsequent export of used nuclear fuel from nuclear submarines in the former naval base at Andreeva Bay, in the Murmansk region of Russia, will be put into operation this month, Rosatomflot has announced.
Construction work on a "shelter" for the dry storage of used nuclear fuel for about 22,000 fuel assemblies, which has been completed, is part of the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership. The used fuel is to be shipped to the Mayak processing facility in Ozersk.
