Uzbekistan and Russia began cooperation in the field of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes after the signing of the Cooperation Agreement by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan in December 2017.
For reference:
Since 1959, the research reactor WWR-CM has been operating at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. Since its commissioning, it has been provided with Russian-made nuclear fuel. In November 2017 another contract was signed for the production and supply of fuel for this reactor. This year the delivery of the first batch is expected, with the volume of 56 fuel assembly. In addition, at that time, a Memorandum of Understanding between ROSATOM and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed. This document captures the intentions of the parties to develop cooperation on a wide range of areas related to the practical application of nuclear technology and training of personnel.
