Heads of ROSATOM and its organizations are taking part in Russian Energy Week 2021 which started on October 13, 2021 in Moscow. The forum organizer is the Ministry of Energy of Russia and Roscongress. The event is on the plan of The Year of Science and Technology in Russia.
On October 13, Director General of ROSATOM Aleksei Likhachev participated in the session “Small Modular Reactors, Energy Supply for Regions and Industry Sector”. Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mikhail Chudakov,  Secretary General and CEO of World Energy Council (WEC) Angela Wilkinson, Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolaev, Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Yevgeniy Grabchak, Chairman of the Board of GDK Baimskaya Ltd. Oleg Novachuk took part in the session. President of Association “Global Energy” and TV Anchor was Sergey Brilev was the moderator.

The discussion participants discussed the energy transition, climate, importance to follow essential consumption principles and careful attitude to the environment in electricity production. The speakers stressed that the requirements increase in flexibility when solving problems of energy supply to remote and hardly accessible territories. With that, the necessity of ensuring baseline generation for balanced operation of such energy ecosystem remains. Therefore, nuclear power could be such a low-carbon source.
Addressing the session, Alexei Likhachev said he had a two-way attitude to the ongoing events, in particular, to the shock experienced by Europe. “There is satisfaction that we have been heard at last. We have spoken long that discussing the energy transition, “greening” the energy generation, we should not treat that as low-minded and cooperative. This is a profound and serious task. While addressing it, we are laying the foundation for dozens of years, may be for centuries ahead. Therefore, let’s realistically evaluate sources of energy, let’s understand the conditions under which they work, and how stable the energy mix would be. And the fact that nuclear power receives more kindly talk and hope cannot but encourage us,” he said.
“Today we need sustainable, stable and predictable energy system. Its cost is an important factor, as the predictability of this cost. The environmental constituent is not just a trend; it is a fact of life which has become one more aspect of the energy system evaluation. In this regard, nuclear power has answers to all the questions. The main trend we welcome is a more mindful approach to energy mix and planning all parameters for the decades to come,” he stressed.
ROSATOM presents its booth at REW demonstrating the development of conventional generation and new facets of nuclear power: wind power and small modular reactors, integrated solutions in generation, management and storage of electric energy. The “Scientific Lounge”, which is near the ROSATOM’s booth, shows products and developments of the Scientific Division of ROSATOM: a pilot specimen of the self-charged storage battery, concentrated ozone facility and other items.
On October 15 there will be the Youth Day of the forum where top managers, experts and young specialists of FEC will discuss current trends and challenges to the world energy generation, effectiveness of becoming professionals, digital transformation of industry and engineering and technology prospects. The event will be attended by Aleksei Likhachev. At the Youth Day ROSATOM will support round-table discussions “What does the youth expect from the 25th World Energy Congress in Saint-Petersburg is 2022? and “FEC for the Youth”. Besides, representatives of ROSATOM’s expert community will take part in the youth track “REN. Junior”.
