The State Corporation ‘Rosatom’ has been implementing ‘Programme of Innovative Development and Technological Upgrading to 2020’. The Programme strives to accomplish innovative development of Russian nuclear sector based on enhancement of science and technology potential and expansion of nuclear technologies application in various spheres of national and international economies.

The key tasks are to boost innovative development of Rosatom, enhance Russian products and services competitiveness at nuclear and radiation technology markets through improvement of existing technologies and technical upgrading of industrial facilities. This is to be accomplished owing to more effective R&D and more efficient commercialisation of their results. Rosatom has introduced a new R&D planning and evaluation system that includes initial expert assessment of funding requests. Creation of corporate knowledge management system is in progress. Even today, Rosatom’s scientific and research institutions, most of which have their own trial production facilities, are capable of a full embodiment of scientific ideas, starting with fundamental research and ending with actual design and prototype products. The above mentioned Rosatom institutions possess a well-developed research infrastructure comprising various research reactors (‘RSC NIIAR’ , ‘IRM’  etc.).
