For information:
The multipurpose fast research reactor (MBIR) is being constructed as part of the “Development of Equipment, Technologies, and Scientific Research in the Use of Nuclear Energy in the Russian Federation” comprehensive program. The construction site is located in Dimitrovgrad (Ulyanovsk region) based on SSC RIAR JSC (Rosatom enterprise). International Research Center (IRC) for MBIR is established based on MBIR reactor. The scientific group will include Russian and foreign scientists and researchers. Consortium MBIR International Research Center will carry out activities of the center.
New participants can join the MBIR project by signing the Consortium Agreement. It is the legal registration of the parties' relations and establishes the rights and obligations of the stakeholders for the use of MBIR reactor after its commissioning. Russian and foreign partners have an opportunity to run experiments necessary for national peaceful nuclear energy development programs without having to directly own the reactor facility (and the associated obligations to ensure a safe facility operation, monitor and account for nuclear materials, and financial and legal obligations). This approach allows for a flexible use of the reactor resource that meets the needs of scientific community members.
