September 26, 2024 – Büyükeceli, Mersin, Türkiye. ROSATOM management delegation headed by Director General Alexey Likhachev visited Akkuyu nuclear power plant construction site in Türkiye. Likhachev held a meeting with the project management and examined the progress at the main facilities of the first start-up complex.
ROSATOM's executives were accompanied at the site by Anton Dedusenko, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC, and Sergei Butсkikh, Chief Executive Officer of the company.
Alexey Likhachev visited the reactor building of Akkuyu NPP Unit 1 where general construction works are nearing completion and active preparation for the start-up operations is underway. The delegation also examined the integrated switchgear building.
“We are at the final stage of preparation for the commencement of start-up operations at Akkuyu NPP Unit 1, so the operations at the site are being maximized; all our main efforts and resources are focused on the facilities of the first start-up complex. All systems and components of the power unit are gradually made ready for operation, and their compliance with the design parameters is being thoroughly checked. By the end of the year, we are going to accomplish one of the key operations in the turbine hall – putting the turbine set on the barring gear. This will be the final point of the turbine installation which will mean that the turbine set and all auxiliary systems are ready for testing. Preparation for operation requires maximum involvement of the entire project team. At the same time, ROSATOM's priority in both construction and operation of NPPs is always safety, and the construction of Türkiye's first NPP is no exception,” said Sergei Butсkikh, Chief Executive Officer of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC.
For reference:
Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant being built in the Republic of Türkiye. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units equipped with Generation 3+ VVER reactors of Russian design. The capacity of each power unit will be 1200 MW. Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry being implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model.
Russia continues to maintain a constructive dialog with its foreign colleagues, developing cooperation with many countries. The implementation of major foreign energy projects also continues. ROSATOM and its entities take an active part in this work.
